Biking and Hiking Chapter Two

Fantastic week of hillwalking and tandeming in the Cairngorms, Torridon and Skye, using the motorhome to its full advantage and "following the weather". It just so happens that for the second year running the weather took us the pretty much the best places it possibly could have. We feel very lucky.

Day 1. Ready for Ben Macdui (bit of a cheat)

Early morning sun walking into Coire an t Sneachda

Gorgeous walk in

Braeriach, Angel's Peak and Cairn Toul from the Ben Macdui approach

Fresh snow on Macdui

On the rounded summit of Ben Macdui with Braeriach behind

Wandering up Cairn Gorm

Day 2. Tandem twitching nervously at Shieldaig at the prospect of being unloaded for the Bealach Na Ba!

Summit of the Bealach - feeling chuffed - we did it non-stop!!

Wheel-cooling stop on the descent to Applecross

Glorious Applecross peninsula road

North-west corner - feeling tired but happy - lots more climbing to come though

Day 3: Torridon. A traverse of Liathach

Climbing Liathach

Phenomenal first view of Beinn Alligin from the far eastern end of the ridge

Massive Beinn Eighe looking back east

On the first Top - Stuc a Choire Dhuibh Bhig

Wee shelter for lunch on the second Top

Clambering on Liathach's first Munro - Spidean a Choire Leith

The rest of the Liathach reveals itself

Another awesome sight of Beinn Alligin

Looking down towards the Am Fasarinen pinnacles

Kim on the bypass path!!

On the airy path around the pinnacles - 3000 feet straight down to the road!

Loch Torridon from the second Munro summit - Mullach an Rathain

The end of the ridge - time to descend

Daisy has loyally waited all day to whisk us back up the road to the motorhome at the start of the walk

The sun sets of Beinn Alligin and Lithach at the end of a brilliant mountain day

Day 4: Rest day - looking for a coffee shop on a cycle from Sligachan down into Glen Eynort - and why not?

A couple of funny characters spotted on the way

Perfect spot to take in the view

Evening positioning drive down into Glen Brittle to camp at the foot of tomorrow's climb

Day 5: Kim ascends Coire na Banachdich heading for the Cuillin ridge

Up on the ridge at the col below Sgurr na Banachdich

Scrambling up Sgurr na Banachdich

Awesome view to Rum and Canna

Munro summit of Sgurr na Banachdich, looking to Sgurr Dearg, Sgurr Mhic Choinnich and Sgurr Alasdair

Me on the summit of Sgurr na Banachdich

Yet another obstacle on the ridge to scramble around

Yet another picture of Kim in the buff!! Blaven through the window behind.

Kim re-climbs Sgurr Dearg, looking for that Inaccessible Pinnacle

We find the pinnacle, with climbers on top of course

The Inaccessible Pinnacle (been there, done that!)

The most stunning walk off imaginable into the late afternoon sun towards Soay and Rum

Looking back to the part of the ridge we climbed up to Sgurr na Banachdich

Walking off Sgurr Dearg's western ridge

Quick coffee stop on the way down to enjoy the view

Walking out, back down to Glen Brittle

Walking out of the Cuillin

View south towards Rum and Eigg

Day 6: circuit of the bonkers Quiraing

The Quirang

Top of the hill above the Quirang - I need a shave - she needs a shampoo!!

The Prison and The Storr beyond

Wandering through the Quiraing

Sun setting on the top of the switchback road up to the Quiraing (to be done on the tandem one day!!)

Our perfect little home for the week awaits in the low afternoon sun in the Quiraing car park

Day 7: The Long Drive. Not a bad light show near Glamaig while heading back towwards Speyside for a warm-down cycle and the last night of an amazing week
