A Grand Design

A flying visit to Strathaven Airfield with my long-time flying buddy, architect Richard Murphy. Richard has designed a wacky new house for Colin, the airfield owner at Strathaven. The house sits right beside the runway and is currently being filmed by Channel 4 for the Grand Designs programme.

The Grand Design

Northern side, that looks across the airfield

My microlight in front of the main first floor living area and the sunset balcony

West facing living room and balcony on the first floor

First floor - the kitchen and snug

Richard climbs up for a look at the second floor "office" area

Looking from the second floor office down to the main living/dining area

Second floor and the office

Wacky circular ground floor guest bedrooms

Runway view

Richard and client, Colin, talk business while Richard's plane, G-RIBA, looks on approvingly

Postscript: it's a huge runway, but with one tiny muddy patch. But like a fly attracted to a sh*te, Richard managed to land right into it!
